Abstract

|
Osteonecrosis of the jaws is the main complication in patients receiving bisphosphonates. This osteonecrosis is a
refractory disease despite the fact that consensus of treatment protocol is being established. In many studies,
recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2(rhBMP-2) has shown positive results in healing of bone defects.
The purpose of this case report is to analyze the clinical effect of rhBMP-2(Novosis??) infiltrated into absorbable
atelocollagen sponge(Teruplug??) application in osteonecrotic lesions of the jaw in 3 patients receiving bisphosphonates. A total dose of 0.5mg of rhBMP-2 was delivered in concentrations of 1mg/mL. The necrotic area has shown successful
healing and the patients did not show any symptom. We concluded that the application of rhBMP-2 is a earlier
therapeutic choice than AAOMS treatment protocol in bisphosphonates-related osteonecrosis of the jaw patients.
